Official Commissioning of the Ore Port Channel Extension

On December 22, 2022, His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, officially inaugurated the dredging project of the access channel to the ore port in Nouadhibou.
In his opening speech, the Minister of Oil, Energy and Mines, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, placed these two projects under the SNIM strategic program framework. The Minister emphasized the importance of this program in increasing the production of the company, improving its competitiveness, promoting its human resources and its commitment to sustainable development
The dredging of the ore port allowed to increase its length, from 15 Km to 25 km, to increase its width and to bring its draught to 18.30 meters. “Today, our port can accommodate 250,000 ton carriers. By following the evolution of the world fleet of ore carriers, our port aligns itself with the competition; this allows us to record reductions on the cost of freight», acclaimed SNIM projects Manager, Mr. Diallo Mohamed Habib.
At a cost of €110,705,411.06, the dredging of the ore port was financed by SNIM, with substantial financial assistance from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
