SNIM participates in the International Health Fair (Medex 2024) as an official sponsor
The Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière (SNIM), Mauritania's leading mining company and Africa's second-largest iron ore producer, is taking part in the 2024 edition of Medex. This participation underscores SNIM's significant commitment to the health sector in Mauritania.
With over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, SNIM plays a crucial economic role, representing 9% of GDP, 14% of the state budget, and 37% of the country's export volume. Beyond its economic contribution, the company stands out for its significant social actions, carried out by its Foundation, which has invested more than $116 million since 2007 in health, education, and local development.
In the specific field of health, the SNIM Foundation has built, equipped, and renovated numerous hospitals, clinics, and health points, in addition to other activities such as distributing medicines, providing ambulances, supporting health facilities along the railway corridor, and organizing medical caravans.
SNIM manages two 100-bed polyclinics and 11 occupational health units, offering quality care to its employees, their families, and surrounding populations. These facilities, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and specialized staff, actively participate in national vaccination campaigns and epidemiological surveillance.
SNIM also contributes to continuing education in the health field by hosting interns from the Faculty of Medicine and public health schools in its health facilities and by supporting national scientific societies.
SNIM's health objectives are threefold: to provide quality care to all workers and their families, to manage medical and surgical emergencies locally, and to improve the overall healthcare offering in Mauritania. The company also emphasizes occupational health, with 11 occupational health units spread across all its sites.
Through its participation in Medex 2024, SNIM aims to share its experience, strengthen its partnerships in the health sector, and contribute to raising awareness about public health issues in Mauritania. This approach is part of the company's long-term vision for sustainable development and improving the living conditions of its workers and local populations.
