SNIM signs a memorandum of understanding to study the possibility to convert its trains into the use of clean energy.
December 5, 2023, on the sidelines of COP28, SNIM signed a memorandum of understanding with Chariot and Total eren to study the possibility to supply its trains with clean energy. The signing ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mines, Mr Nani Ould Chrougha.
In a declaration on the occasion the CEO and Board Member, Mr. Mohamed Vall Mohamed Telmidy, stated that the signing of this memorandum comes within the frame of SNIM’s policy to reduce its carbon emissions and that the agreement aims at launching as soon as possible a joint study to consider the possibility of building a joint project, to shift the train's dependence from fossil energy sources to clean energy.
It should be noted that SNIM gives particular importance to sustainable development, and, in particular, to environmental protection. It is currently working on a strategic decarborization study and has taken steps towards green energy through the construction of solar and wind energy production plants.
